with 3 foot thick stone walls, Strathcraig is built for all the west coast weather can throw at it, so it's quiet and cosy all year round
enjoying open views across Lochinver Bay to heather-clad hills that heve seldom known a human presence, Leave the road and wander where you will!
Assynt is like nowhere else, and its mountains, fast-flowing rivers and white sand beaches are a joy for young and old alike
From Strathcraig you will find a variety of scenic walks and drives offering stupendous views of the indented, island-studded coast against the backdrop of the dramatic peaks of Assynt and Coigach - mountains like Canisp, Quinag, Stac Polly and of course the iconic Suilven. Wildlife is present in plenty, and even if you never leave the area of the house you are quite likely to spot buzzards, the occasional eagle, many seabirds, seals and red deer - in fact, we also have badger, otter and pine marten in the immediate area, although you'll have to be patient (and lucky) to see them.
The attractive fishing village of Lochinver has shops, a post office, restaurants, pubs and churches, so you can find most of the things you need, right down to an ATM and a filling station. There are magnificent sandy beaches within a few miles, and countless lochs, streams and rivers offer wonderful sport for the fisherman. And why not try the high-quality local restaurants, coffee shops and cafes? From luxury hotels to couthy pubs, Lochinver has become a destination for those who enjoy good food.
There is a normal full-width road from Inverness via Ullapool to Lochinver, and Strathcraig is only a couple of miles further on by way of a single-track road signposted for Strathan (where you'll find Strathcraig).
Driving up here is still a pleasure and the scenery is unique.
Once you've arrived, you can put on your walking boots - but when you need something, the village is less than five minutes away in the car.
